Welcome to Jena!
The "Second International Symposium on Semantic Mining in Biomedicine" (SMBM 2006) will be held in the "JenTower" in Jena, Germany. The tower was built in 1969 and hosted many departments of the University of Jena. After a complete renovation in 2000, several companies and parts of the city council have taken their offices in this spectacular building. With a height of 128 metres, the tower is the most prominent building in the town of Jena. On its top, we will enjoy a wonderful view of the city of Jena and its surrounding countryside (weather permitting ...).
On the 27th floor, we will enjoy the tutorials, the industrial exhibition, the panel discussion and, of course, the whole symposium. For the tutorials, three smaller rooms will be available. The talks during the symposium will be held in the plenar hall with more than 100 seats. Conference participants will have convenient access to a computer pool with 6 computers and an additional room where personal notebooks can be plugged in. WiFi will be available in all rooms.
The Catering which includes coffee breaks and lunch (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday), will be served by the Scala restaurant, famous among residents for their gorgeous food. At the 29th floor, we will meet on Tuesday for the conference dinner. The Scala restaurant was awarded several times, so you can expect excellent meals and a relaxed atmosphere. A perfect place for fruitful conversations and discussions!
On Monday evening we will meet in the underground of Jena for the get-together party. In the "Rosenkeller", the oldest student pub in Jena, we will enjoy some live lounge music as well as the tasty "Schwarze Rose" (Black Rose), a local dark beer (be careful!). In this casual atmosphere, we will finish off the first day of the symposium.
