Medicine and molecular biology develop into data driven sciences, where electronic access to terminologies, ontologies, information resources, and computer tools is crucial for success in applications like information retrieval, information extraction and text mining. The concept of SemanticMining describes the integration of knowledge-based terminological and ontological resources into access and retrieval methods on natural language documents and biomedical databases in order to support researchers and providers in the biomedical domain. The symposium targets members from bioinformatics, genome informatics, medical informatics, chemo- and pharmaco-informatics as well as from computational linguistics and computer science.
Jointly organised by Jena University and the SemanticMining Network, an organisation based on the partnership of 25 participants from 11 European countries and supported by the European Commission's 6th Framework, this event ist the second of its kind.
